Adult Collection

Over 14000 titles including: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Romance, Science Fiction, Western, Biography, Christian, Fantasy, Large Print, Audiobooks.

Magazines - over 40 titles available to be checked out
Reference - in house use only
Newspapers - Killarney Guide

A Large Print rotation from Public Library Services in 4 month rotations which include a variety of genres.

We would like to recognize the support of the Killarney and Cartwright Area Foundations for their support in augmenting the adult collection, specifically non-fiction, large print, and audiobooks.


Online Search

Our catalogue is available online and can be accessed by clicking Search Our Collection at the top of the page or by clicking here. 

Inter-Library Loans: This service allows you to request a book that we do not have in our collection. We will try and find the book you are looking for at another library and send a request on your behalf. You are also welcome to search the database yourself by clicking Inter-library Loans at the top of the page or by clicking here.

Ebscohost: This is an online database available to all patrons of the Lakeland Regional Library, contact the library staff for a username and password, then have fun exploring the vast amounts of reference material on this site. Available references include the Ebscohost Web Reference, Student Reference Center, Kids Search, Canadian Reference Center, Searchasaurus - Elementary School, Auto Repair Reference Center, Novelist, Canadian Student Research Center, Home Improvement Reference Center, and Small Engine Repair Reference Center.


Used book sale

We have an ongoing book sale in the basement of the library. Prices are as follows:
Hard covers or trade paperbacks are $.50 each or 3 for $1.00
Paperbacks are $.25 each or 6 for $1.00
Magazines are $.10 each
Videos or DVDs are $.50 each


Donations

Donations of books and movies are greatly appreciated. We reserve the right to add them to our collection or offer them for sale, with the money being used to purchase new books. Charitable receipt available for cash donations.

 


Young readers

Easy books: These are picture and storybooks for toddlers and preschoolers. We also have a good number of books designed for beginner readers. These books are kept in a special section and are defined with a blue label on the spine.

Storysacks: These are book bags containing a children's fiction book, a non fiction book, props and developmental games which are all revolving around a theme.

Juvenile and young adult collections include both fiction and non fiction

Programs: Ask us about 1000 Books Before Kindergarten and our Summer Reading Programs. We also offer story time for groups. Contact us for more information.


Public internet & computer access

The library has three computers available to the public in Killarney and one in Cartwright. Library membership is not required. Computer use is free.

Both branches also have free and open wifi.

Black and white printing is .25 cents/page and colour is .75 cents/page.
We also offer photocopying for .25 cents/page for black and white and colour is .75c cents/page.
Also if you want to scan something to a usb drive we also offer that service now at no cost.

The Library in Killarney has a projector available to rent at the cost of $20 (payable in advance)


Book Services for seniors

We are pleased to offer a monthly visit to Bayside, Lakeview Garden and Royal Manor. Staff pick a selection based on residents' taste, requests, and reading history. These items can be kept until the next visit and can be renewed if not done. If you or someone you know may benefit from this service you can contact the library.


Accessible Services

People who have difficulty reading print due to a learning, physical or visual disability can borrow free accessible reading materials through CELA. Complete collection including more than 1,000,000 books and over 200 magazines and newspapers. Choose your preferred format: audio, e-text or braille. Download materials or receive by mail.

The National Network for Equitable Library Service (NNELS) is a repository of content owned and sustained by Canadian public libraries. We work with international partners, libraries, readers, and publishers (particularly Canadian ones) to make copies of books in accessible formats available to readers in Canada who have print disabilities. Other Media

Videos and DVDs: Videos and DVDs are rated by the Province of Manitoba Film Classification Board. Children under the age of 12 are limited to General rated movies. Our Video and DVD collection is solely reliant on donations from the public. Any donations are greatly appreciated.

eBooks: Lakeland Regional Library is part of eLibraries Manitoba. We would be delighted to get you set up using the Libby app on your tablet, smartphone, or wifi enabled Kobo. eLibraries has a wide selection of both ebook and audiobook titles.

We will also do our best to help you with those ereaders whenever we can, so please don't hesitate to bring them in and ask the staff from assistance.

The library also lends puzzles, we accept donations of puzzles to augment this collection.


NEW Electronics

The Library now offers Radon Detectors for a loan of 3 weeks in partnership with The Lung Association of Manitoba.

A grant from the Killarney Foundation has allowed us to buy a new projector and screen available for the 3 day loan at no cost.

COMNG SOON: A new partnership with Killarney Services for Seniors will allow us to lend iPads and Victor readers to seniors with low vision or other print disability.


Other Services

Cartwright Killarney Boissevain Settlement Services is at the Library Thursday mornings from 9-12. Appointments available by contacting April at 204-529-2307 or cdo@cartwrightroblin.ca. Drop ins welcomed!

A Service Canada representative comes to the library the third Thursday of every month 10:00am-3:00pm. Appointments available by contacting the library. Service Canada provides Canadians with a single point of access to a wide range of government services and benefits.

Local History Books for Sale. We have copies of both the Gems of Killarney and the Gents of Killarney available for purchase with each book costing $20.   Right now at the library the local history book More Reflections is yours for the price of a donation to the library. Proceeds will go toward the purchase of new books. We also no have Vantage Points at $10/book

Rotating Art Gallery. We love having new art on our walls! If you or someone you know might be interested in displaying arts or crafts in the upcoming months, feel free to contact the library staff.
