Online Resources

EBSCOhost - Search the content of more than 10,000 popular and academic magazines, reference books, plus images, covering all subject areas, from current events and history to the arts and sciences. Many Canadian titles are included. Narrow results by date, subject, publication, etc.

Come into the library and we can show you how to use it and you can access it from home. You can sign in using your library account number. However for any account number below 1000 you have to enter a 0 in front of your number or 0's depending on what number you have. For example if you are account number A66 you need to enter A0066. Any problems just contact us at the library.

There are many reference databases that you can find under EBSCOhost and these include:

        Academic Search Premier - This multi-disciplinary database provides full text for more than 4,600 journals, including full text for nearly 3,900 peer-reviewed titles. PDF backfiles to 1975 or further are available for well over one hundred journals, and searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,000 titles.

        MasterFILE Premier - Designed specifically for public libraries, this multidisciplinary database provides full text for nearly 1,700 periodicals with full-text information dating as far back as 1975. Covering virtually every subject area of general interest, MasterFILE Premier also contains full text for nearly 500 reference books and over 164,400 primary source documents, as well as an Image Collection of over 592,000 photos, maps & flags. This database is updated daily via EBSCOhost.

        Canadian Reference Centre - Canadian Reference Centre combines Canadian magazines, newspapers, newswires and reference books to create the largest collection of regional full text content available to Canadian libraries. This database includes leading Canadian periodicals and international (U.S. and U.K) periodicals in full text; full text reference books; over 87,900 full text biographies and an Image Collection of over 502,000 photos, maps, and flags. This database is updated on a daily basis.

        Middle Search Plus - Middle Search Plus provides full text for more than 140 popular, middle school magazines. All full text articles included in the database are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). Full text is also available for thousands of biographies and historical essays. Middle Search Plus also contains 84,774 biographies, 105,786 primary source documents, and a School Image Collection of photos, maps and flags

        Primary Search - Primary Search provides full text for more than 70 popular, magazines for elementary school research. All full text articles included in the database are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles), and full text information dates as far back as 1990.

        Canadian Points of View Reference Centre - Canadian Reference Centre combines Canadian magazines, newspapers, newswires and reference books to create the largest collection of regional full text content available to Canadian libraries. This database includes leading Canadian periodicals and international (U.S. and U.K.) periodicals in full text; full text reference books; over 87,900 full text biographies and an Image Collection of over 502,000 photos, maps, and flags. This database is updated on a daily basis.

        Auto Repair Reference Centre - covers more than 35,000 vehicles from 1945 to present. Content includes nearly 857,000 drawings and step-by-step photographs, approximately 99,000 technical service bulletins & recalls issued by the original equipment vehicle manufacturer, over 158,600 enhanced wiring diagrams for easy viewing and printing, specifications & maintenance schedules, Labor Time Guide & Estimator, AutoIQ.

        Small Engine Repair Reference Center - Small Engine Repair Reference Center is a full text database designed for use in public and school libraries. Content contained in the database will be derived from the full set of small engine repair manuals from Clymer (http://clymer.com/). Clymer repair manuals provide step-by-step procedures based upon the complete disassembly of the machine. This hands-on experience combined with extensive research results in a manual that is both detailed and user-friendly.

        Home Improvement Reference Center - Home Improvement Reference Center is a full text database designed for use in public and school libraries. Content contained in the database will focus on home improvement and home repair.

        NoveList Plus - the premiere database of reading recommendations, available through libraries around the world. It is a comprehensive source of information about books that includes expert recommendations, reviews, articles, lists and more.

 


Interlibrary Loans -This service allows you to request a book that we do not have in our collection. We will try and find the book you are looking for at another library and send a request on your behalf. You are also welcome to search the database yourself by clicking MB Libraries in the navigation bar, the fILL logo in this section or by clicking here!

eLibraries Manitoba - Download and listen to best selling and classic audio books 24/7 on your PC, laptop, PDA or MP3 player at home, in the office or anywhere in the world. It’s free, all you need is your library card. Contact us at the Library to get you set up and if you need help please do call or come in and we can walk you through how to use this wonderful library tool!

NNELS - National Network for Equitable Library Service - This website is an online public library of published books in accessible formats for Canadians with perceptual disabilities. If you would like to sign up for this service please let us know so we can get that arranged.

The Canadian Encyclopedia - A comprehensive information source about Canada and Canadians, for students, the general public and scholars. Includes articles written by experts, as well as web links and multimedia clips. No library card is required to access these resources on the Internet.

Library and Archives Canada - Library and Archives Canada is a federal institution tasked with acquiring, preserving and making Canada's documentary heritage accessible.

Statistics Canada - Economic, social and census data with daily analysis of statistical releases from Statistics Canada. Hundreds of free electronic publications to view.

Khan Academy - “Learn almost anything for free.” 3300 videos explain many subjects.

Manitoba Genealogical Society - MGS has some unique information on people who have lived in Manitoba (cemetery indexes, obituaries, BMDs – births, marriages, deaths, etc.) but we also can assist researchers with ancestors and descendants in other Canadian provinces and other countries – primarily United States, Great Britain, and Ireland.

Canadian Genealogy Centre - A gateway to Canada’s genealogical resources provided by Library and Archives Canada. It offers genealogical content, advice, services and research tools.

Goodreads - Includes reader reviews, trivia, reading lists, etc.  You can choose to sign up and share book lists.

BookBrowse - Includes reviews, previews, stories behind the books, author interviews, reading guides, and more.

Fantastic Fiction - Bibliographies for over 50,000 authors. Use the browse menu on the left to find an author by surname, or use the search box above to search for an author or book. Information on over 600,000 books. Throughout the site, just click on a book to see its cover picture, description and publication details

Manitoba Start - provides information and guides you to take advantage of Manitoba’s immigrant employment and settlement services by determining which services meet your personal needs upon arrival and as you look for a job or advance your career.

Applying for a Canadian Passport - Do you need to apply for a passport or renew yours or just have questions this is the place to go. There are no paper copies available so you either fill it out online or print it out. We can help you out at the library with this, just ask at the front desk.

Killarney-Turtle Mountain - If you're looking for somewhere fun and interesting to visit or a place to set down roots, mark Killarney on your map.

Cartwright - Roblin - Cartwright is a village in southwestern Manitoba, Canada.  Just 13 kilometres east of Cartwright you will find Mather.  Both of these communities reside in the newly amalgamated Cartwright-Roblin Municipality.
